Student Story:Arun Joseph–Finding His Way
Making a few stops before arriving at Cape Breton University, I have finally found my groove in petroleum engineering. I am originally from Dubai and started my university career at the University of Alberta, studying mechanical engineering. But I soon realized that petroleum was a better career option for me and so I decided to enroll in the Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering Technology degree program at Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
My interest in engineering began as a young boy in Dubai and continued right through my time at Indian High School. I always took things apart. And now I'm working towards a career that will enable me to build things and take them apart everyday. It's really exciting! Of course, now I will understand how they work as well.
The program at CBU is second to none. The instructors have worked in the petroleum industry and bring their knowledge, experience and skills to the classroom everyday. This is a valued part of my learning experience. CBU offers a calm, yet exciting atmosphere that will make my time here a memorable one.
I am 23 years old and currently in my second year. My goal is to work in the field after graduation. From what I hear, there is a multitude of opportunities in the petroleum industry and I want to be hands-on in a challenging and dynamic role.
This year, more than 500 international students are enrolled at this Atlantic Canadian university. They come from all over including China, Russia, Kuwait, Egypt, India and Bermuda. CBU also has its first students from Yemen, St. Kitts & Nevis, Vietnam, and Trinidad & Tobago.
How did I first hear about Cape Breton University and the petroleum engineering program? Through a search on Google and it was a great find.
The people here on Cape Breton Island are the friendliest out of all the cities in Canada I have visited. And I hope other students quickly realize the opportunity and high caliber engineering programs Cape Breton University has to offer.
