UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA

UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA

Mission Statement:

The University of Manitoba (U of M) is the oldest university in Western Canada, and is the only research-intensive postsecondary educational institution in Manitoba. The university's main campus is situated on a 233-hectare complex that is enclosed on three sides by the Red River. The U of M offers 51 undergraduate degree programs. Under the university's U1 program, students in their first year can take courses in diverse subjects areas by "front-loading" their electives. U1 also allows students to study on or off campus, full or part time, and in the day or evening. The U of M has 30 growing companies in the high-tech sector assembled in the Fort Garry campus's Smartpark. Smartpark supports research that benefits the companies and the university; it also provides employment opportunities for U of M graduates. Smartpark also houses the country's most advanced centre for foods and nutraceuticals.
