The English Language Centre (ELC) at Lethbridge College (LC) offers language training year-round at all levels from beginner to advanced. Classes are limited to approximately 17 students and include a range of socio-cultural activities. ELC programs are designed for those with TOEFL scores of less than 550 on the paper-based test or its equivalent. Courses are offered in all three academic terms and students may enter in any of the three; fall and winter sessions are 16 weeks long, while the spring term lasts 11 weeks. Each course is full-time and intensive, with 20 hours of instruction per week. Students can also enter the program at any point during the semester (for a minimum of one month's study and for a maximum of 12 weeks in Fall/Winter and eight weeks in Spring) and pay a reduced fee. Academic English Training prepares students to enter credit programs at colleges and universities. After completing advanced courses, students may take one of two achievement tests to prepare for direct entry into adult upgrading, university transfer or any of LC's 50+ career training programs. Specially contracted group immersion programs are available and include directed study and courses in business, environmental science and tourism. An orientation session is held during the first week of classes, and residence or homestay housing is available. |

The main LC campus covers 57 scenic hectares overlooking the Oldman River. Campus resources include a 150,000-volume library and media centre, networked computer labs that provide access to the Internet, up-to-date science and technology laboratories, and athletic facilities. Alberta's third-largest city, Lethbridge is set amid farms and ranchland. The city is a short distance from Calgary, two national parks and the US border, and is home to many golf courses, historic sites, an observatory and shopping facilities. Only an hour from the Rocky Mountains, the area is ideally suited to a relaxed lifestyle focusing on outdoor activity. |
