Lower Canada College: Chadha Recognized with Silver in Board of Trade Competition
Congratulations to Gurveen Chadha who won the silver Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal Outstanding Student Competition. The winners of this annual event were announced at a special gathering on May 29, 2007. For the past 25 years the Board has recognized excellence in four categories: the arts; vocational education; social sciences - languages; and science - mathematics. Students must submit a project to their school in one of the categories, include a resume of their accomplishments in areas such as community service, leadership, the arts and athletics and undergo an interview within their school. Each Quebec Association of Independent School member then sends three finalists to the QAIS interviews, where five students are sent on to the next round to represent the QAIS schools. LCC's Edward Lai placed third overall in the QAIS for science. Gurveen Chadha and Eliza Cohen placed first in the QAIS respectively for the arts and social sciences - languages and went through as two of five QAIS representatives for the whole of Montreal. At the final ceremony, Gurveen was awarded a silver plaque in the arts. There were 58 students overall in the final competition, and it is an exceptional feat for all of the students involved.

Extreme Pilots Visit Sedbergh
Sedbergh students welcomed pilots who literally travelled around the world to meet them. Helicopter pilots Jennifer Murray and Colin Bodill, have successfully set a new world record; circumnavigation of the world, with a twist. Jennifer and Colin decided to make their challenge extreme by transiting pole to pole and a piece of Sedbergh (the school's flag) was with them at the top and bottom of the earth.

Bishop's College School: Mini World Cup Report 2007
There were plenty of serious soccer players involved, but also many novices. Asia fielded the youngest rookie, a seven year old campus resident. The level of participation was tremendous both amongst the supporters and the teams. The final ended up being a close match between Korea and the European Union. After several years of coming close Korea finally won the tournament with a goal in the last five minutes of the game. Mexico, last year's winners had an off the field triumph as their supporters were chosen as the most colourful and entertaining. There was strong competition for this award as many teams' supporters showed originality and verve in their costumes and cheers. Many thanks are due to the referees, Mr. Macdonald, Charles de Sainte-Marie and Koula Trichas as well as to the grounds staff for getting the fields ready despite the late snowfall. Congratulations to Korea, and to everyone who joined in.

Calgary Board of Education Launched System-wide Environmental Stewardship Project
Today marked an exciting day for the Calgary Board of Education. With help from students, teachers and community leaders, the CBE held a public launch for the Education*Energy*Environment (EcoStewardship) initiative and website at Sunalta school's outdoor naturalization area. This initiative is a first for a Canadian school board. The event featured a series of short presentations that introduced a new, environmentally conscious vision for CBE and its partners, making the public school board a model of local and global environmental stewardship. Presenters demonstrated their commitment to the project by signing a special charter and contributing to a ceramic mural, created by Lord Beaverbrook High School students. Presenters included students, The City of Calgary, Alberta Environment, The Calgary Chamber of Commerce, Calgary Association of Parents and School Councils, the Alberta Council for Environmental Education and the CBE.
