Algonquin & Lakeshore Catholic District School Board: Major renovations in store for St. Michael Catholic School
The Ontario provincial government has announced a $6.2 million commitment for extensive renovations and facility improvements to St. Michael Catholic School in Belleville. The announcement was made at the school August 27. "We are delighted with today's announcement," said Wilf Garrah, Chair of the Board, who attended along with Director of Education Michael Schmitt and members of senior administration and school officials. "We commend the McGuinty government for its commitment to excellence in education." St. Michael Catholic School was identified as prohibitive-to-repair by the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board and the Ministry of Education. The announcement was part of the provincial government's investment to build new schools or expand existing schools to replace facilities where renewal needs are almost as much as the cost of replacing the school. "This is good news for St. Michael Catholic School and the neighbouring community," said Leona Dombrowsky, MPP for Hastings-Frontenac-Lennox & Addington. "School boards are working closely with the government and their communities to revitalize our classrooms inside and out. This kind of significant education investment will go a long way to support students in this community for many years to come."
