Algonquin & Lakeshore Catholic District School Board: Major renovations in store for St. Michael Catholic School
The Ontario provincial government has announced a $6.2 million commitment for extensive renovations and facility improvements to St. Michael Catholic School in Belleville. The announcement was made at the school August 27. "We are delighted with today's announcement," said Wilf Garrah, Chair of the Board, who attended along with Director of Education Michael Schmitt and members of senior administration and school officials. "We commend the McGuinty government for its commitment to excellence in education." St. Michael Catholic School was identified as prohibitive-to-repair by the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board and the Ministry of Education. The announcement was part of the provincial government's investment to build new schools or expand existing schools to replace facilities where renewal needs are almost as much as the cost of replacing the school. "This is good news for St. Michael Catholic School and the neighbouring community," said Leona Dombrowsky, MPP for Hastings-Frontenac-Lennox & Addington. "School boards are working closely with the government and their communities to revitalize our classrooms inside and out. This kind of significant education investment will go a long way to support students in this community for many years to come."

"School offices will be open and in full swing this Monday, August 27, and teachers will be busy, continuing to prepare their classrooms for the return of students," notes Director of Education Sylvia Terpstra. Families who moved over the summer are asked to register their children at their new school between August 27 and 31. Meanwhile, the first Board meeting of the new school year will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 30. "It's hard to believe the summer's almost over," says Board Chairperson Angela Lloyd. TAIE International Institute: August, 2007 Students' Birthday Party
On Friday, August 3rd, some of TAIE's staff and students met in the Party Room to have a good time and recognize those students who were born in the month of August. Lily, Enzo, Danny, Dean, Leo, Frank, Fiona, Mark, Winnie, Mary and David were all called up to the front to make a wish, blow out their birthday candle and to cut the first piece of the birthday cake. After we sang the "Happy Birthday" song, students were presented with a gift to show them how important they are in the TAIE family, and then invited to give a small speech. Special thanks to Vice Principal Arthur Wang, Raymond Lee, Mr. Sam Burton, Ms. Brenda Mac Donald, Mr. Mike Timson, and Ms. Catherine Draper for their contribution in the celebration. Carl Chen took many pictures to capture the birthday moments, while our new Guidance Counsellor Stephanie Schultz was the Master of Ceremonies.
