School district study options in Canada include elementary school, high school, English or French as a Second Language (ESL/FSL), adult high school and short-term study programs.
Most of these programs require full-time study that follows the academic year of September to June. School districts in Canada offer international students provincially-approved programs which encompass morning and afternoon instruction as well as field trips, sports and other extra-curricular activities. At the high school level, international students in Canada also have a choice of elective courses in addition to required courses. Elective course options vary from school to school within a district, and between districts across the province. Common elective course options in Canada include music/band, drama, fine or graphic arts, technology-based courses and other language courses (for example, Spanish, German, Chinese, Japanese, Ukrainian, etc.).
