Home-stay involves living in the home of a Canadian host-family. Host families offer a private room or space to an international student in exchange for a small fee, which is usually significantly less than it costs either to live in on-campus housing or a private apartment. Home-stay arrangements may include only the room, or room and anywhere from one meal to all three meals in a day. Exact prices will vary depending on what's included.
Home-stay offers international students an opportunity to immerse themselves in Canadian life. For English Language or some French Language students, it also offers the chance to practice their English or French in a day-to-day environment. For younger students, home-stay offers a more secure environment with greater possible supervision and more readily available support. Home-stay is also often the least expensive of all available accommodation choices.
Your school may organize its own home-stay program, or you may wish to research independent Canadian home-stay organizers.
