The University of Manitoba and College Universitaire de Saint-Boniface Renew Affiliation Agreement
The University and the Collège have been affiliated since the founding of the University in 1877; in fact, the Collège, who is celebrating its 190th anniversary in 2008, was one of the founding colleges of the University. The current affiliation agreement was entered into in November 1, 1972. The proposed new affiliation agreement seeks to update the language of the agreement and recognize changes that have happened both at the University and the Collège since the current agreement was signed.
Dr. Emoke Szathmáry, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Manitoba, enthusiastically welcomed the renewed affiliation agreement. "The long-standing affiliation between the University of Manitoba and the Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface is a point of pride for the University. This affiliation encourages and facilitates scholarship in both of Canada's official languages, and enables the offering of degree programs in both official languages right here in Manitoba. This affiliation has been, and now will continue to be of significant benefit for the people of Manitoba," notes Dr. Szathmáry. "Le Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface looks forward to a renewed partnership with the University of Manitoba," says Mrs. Raymonde Gagné, president of le Collège. "The affiliation brings the strengths of both institutions together and provides Manitoba students access to a wider array of programs in both official languages". The Collège offers University of Manitoba-conferred undergraduate degree programs in arts, science, education, social work and business administration and graduate programs in Canadian studies and education. The affiliation agreement enables students from both institutions to freely take courses at the other.
